Taking Directory Snapshots on Demand or by Using a Snapshot Policy

This article explains how you can use per-directory snapshots in Qumulo Core.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Qumulo Core 2.6.11 (or higher) cluster
  • Administrative access to the Web UI

PROCESS

In Qumulo Core 2.6.11 (and higher), you can create an on-demand snapshot or configure a snapshot policy for a specific directory.

To Take an On-Demand Snapshot

  1. Log in to the Qumulo Core Web UI.
  2. Click Cluster > Saved Snapshots.
  3. On the Saved Snapshots page, click Take Snapshot.
  4. In the On Demand Snapshot dialog box, do the following:
    1. For Snapshot Name, enter a name.
    2. For Apply to Directory, enter the path to the directory that you want to snapshot.
    3. For Delete Snapshot, choose Never or Automatically after and enter a number, and specify hours(s)day(s)week(s), or month(s).
    4. Click Save.

To Configure a Snapshot Policy

  1. Log in to the Qumulo Core Web UI.
  2. Click Cluster > Policy.
  3. Click Create Policy.
  4. On the Create Snapshot Policy page, do the following:
    1. For Policy Name, enter a name.
    2. For Apply to Directory, enter the path to the directory that you want to snapshot.
    3. In the Run Policy on the Following Schedule section, do the following:
      1. For Select Schedule Type select Hourly or LessDaily or Weekly, or Monthly.
        Note: Your operating system sets the time zone automatically.
      2. For Take a Snapshot at, enter a time.
      3. For On the Following Day(s), select days.
      4. For Delete Snapshot, choose Never or Automatically after and enter a number, and specify minute(s)hours(s)day(s)week(s), or month(s).
    4. In the Snapshot Naming Format section, name your snapshot by using the variables {Year}, {Month}, {Day}, {Hour}, {Minute}, {Policy}, {Directory}, and {ID}.
      Note:
      • The default for root directories is {ID}_{Policy}.
      • The default for a directory snapshot is {ID}_{Policy}_{Directory}.
      • If two policies have the same name, Qumulo Core appends _{ID} to the name.
    5. (Optional) Click Enable policy upon creation.
    6. Click Create Policy.
